Wydad Storms to 3–0 Win as Nairobi United Struggle to Match Up

Wydad Casablanca made a bold statement in their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign by handing Nairobi United a 3–0 beating in the group stage opener. Playing in front of a packed home crowd, Wydad dominated from the first whistle and never let up.

The Moroccan side wasted no time: just three minutes in, Ayoub Boucheta slid in at the far post to score, setting the tone for the match.

Wydad kept control of the game, moving the ball well and making Nairobi United work hard just to keep up. Before half-time, Mohamed Bouchouari made it 2–0 with a composed finish, capping off a lovely attacking move.

After the break, Nairobi United tried to regroup. They threw in fresh legs around the 60th minute to try to build momentum. But Wydad’s defense stayed tight and their midfield never gave the visitors enough space.

Late in the game, substitute Mohamed Rayhi added the third for Wydad in the 86th minute, guiding in a smart pass from Walid Sabbar. That goal sealed the deal and underlined how much stronger Wydad looked.

What Went Right for Wydad

  • Early goal: Scoring so soon gave them momentum and confidence.

  • Balanced play: They attacked smartly but didn’t expose themselves at the back.

  • Substitutions paid off: Rayhi’s introduction added fresh energy and quality.

  • Psychological edge: Nairobi United was playing in a big continental game for the first time.

Nairobi United’s Challenge

This match was a tough baptism for Nairobi United, who are making their group-stage debut in the CAF Confederation Cup. Their defense was under constant pressure, and they struggled to turn any good spells into real chances. The late yellow card given to Boniface Mzee illustrated their frustration as the game slipped away.

Final Thought

Wydad showed exactly why they are among the top teams in African club football — control, quality finishing, and good game intelligence. Nairobi United, though disappointed, gained valuable experience. They will need to regroup quickly if they are to make their mark in Group B. Wydad, meanwhile, sit atop the group after a strong start.
