Rogers Rescue Mission: Villa Turn It Around at Elland Road

Aston Villa staged a dramatic turnaround at Elland Road, with Morgan Rogers stealing the spotlight. After going a goal down early, Villa came back strong to beat Leeds United 2–1, climbing into the Premier League top four.

Leeds shocked Villa in the 8th minute when Lukas Nmecha bundled home a Sean Longstaff free kick. The goal came after a lengthy VAR check to confirm no foul or offside — a nerve-wracking moment for both sides.

But Unai Emery’s men came out swinging in the second half. Just three minutes after the restart, Morgan Rogers leveled the game. He powered home a cross from Donyell Malen to make it 1–1.

Then, in the 75th minute, Villa’s skipper got the winner — a sensational curling free kick from the edge of the box following a foul on Ross Barkley. The shot looped beautifully over the wall and past Leeds’ keeper Lucas Perri.

Villa’s manager, Emery, made a bold move with substitutions. Donyell Malen came in and made an immediate impact, providing the assist for the equalizer. And even when Leeds thought they had an equalizer later through Dan James, the goal was ruled out after a VAR check for handball.

This win marks Villa’s sixth in their last seven league games — a real statement of intent. Their resurgence under Emery is now impossible to ignore.

Villa left Elland Road with more than just three points — they left with momentum. For Leeds, the loss is a bitter blow. They started the game strongly, but couldn’t hold on when it mattered. Villa, on the other hand, showed composure, quality, and a killer instinct when given a chance.
